Most visitors to Mürrenbachfall will come from Interlaken or beyond. To reach Mürrenbachfall, you will begin your journey from the picturesque village of Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen, you will have two options:

  • You can catch the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Mürrenbachfall
  • You can hike from Lauterbrunnen to Mürrenbachfall

For those who prefer to go by bus, you can catch Bus 141 from the Lauterbrunnen station and head to the direction of Stechelberg, Hotel. This scenic bus ride treats you to panoramic views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Along the way, you will see dramatic cliffs surrounding you. The bus will also pass by Trümmelbach Falls, another interesting place to visit.

Upon reaching Stechelberg (Schilthornbahn), a short walk awaits you to the falls. You will see the waterfalls immediately since it is quite large. It is right beside the parking lot.

If you prefer an easy stroll, you can start your hike from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg. It’s a simple trail that typically takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes and passes by Staubbachfall, Trümmelbachfall, Ägertenbachfall, and Mürrenbachfall.


How to Get to Mürrenbachfall from Mürren

If you’re already in the charming alpine village of Mürren, reaching the Mürrenbachfall is equally accessible. From Mürren, you will have two options:

  • You can catch the cable car from Mürren to Mürrenbachfall
  • You can hike from Mürren to Mürrenbachfall

To get from Mürren to Mürrenbachfall, you will have to do the following:

  1. Take the cable car from Mürren to Gimmelwald
  2. Take the cable car from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg

Upon reaching Stechelberg (Schilthornbahn), a short walk awaits you to the falls. You will see the waterfall immediately since it is quite large. It is right beside the parking lot.

If hiking’s your thing, start your journey from Mürren. It’s a tough route, around 6 kilometers, and takes about 2 hours. Be ready—it gets steep, with loose rocks. Best tackle this with sturdy shoes, good fitness, and a solid sense of balance.

The views from this hiking path are nothing short of amazing.


How to Get to Mürrenbachfall from Gimmelwald

You can start another hiking route in Gimmelwald, a lovely little village famous for its peace and stunning views. Follow the trail that guides you through beautiful scenes in the rear Lauterbrunnen Valley, going through Sefinental Valley, then steeply down the Schwendiwald, before reaching Trachsellauenen and Stechelberg.

I’d suggest this only if you have sturdy shoes, good fitness, and a strong sense of balance. You will catch glimpses of the falls as you get nearer to where you’re headed.

You may also use the cable car from Gimmelwald, and it will lead you directly to the parking lot in Stechelberg.

Final Thoughts: How to Get to Mürrenbachfall

If you have the time, I’d suggest walking from Lauterbrunnen to Mürrenbachfall and making a stop at Trümmelbach Falls along the route. It’s a safe and stunning option that I’d recommend to everyone except very young children. If you’re with little ones, it’s best to skip Trümmelbach Falls.

But if you’re feeling adventurous and equipped with the right shoes and gear, you can hike down from Mürren. This trail offers incredible views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. However, it gets steep in some parts, so I’d only suggest it for those with sturdy hiking boots, good fitness, and a strong sense of balance.

Going to Mürrenbachfall promises an amazing time in Switzerland’s beautiful outdoors, whether you take the bus, a leisurely walk, or an energetic hike.
