As one of the most populous and visited cities in Switzerland, people who are in Lausanne might consider visiting one of Switzerland’s premier mountain resorts by train – Verbier. This article discusses all you need to know about going from Lausanne to Verbier.

You can start by visiting the SBB website: www.sbb.ch. Using the website, you can type in your departure and arrival destinations. It will then guide you to where and when you need to be. An app is also available for iOS and Android devices.

How To Get From Lausanne To Verbier by Train

There is no direct train from Lausanne to Verbier.

To travel by train from Lausanne to Verbier, you will have to take the following trains/gondola:

  1. Take the Interregio train from Lausanne to Martigny.
  2. In Martigny, take the train to Le Châble VS.
  3. In Le Châble, take the gondola to Verbier (télécabine).

The travel time from Lausanne to Verbier is 1 hour and 33 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Throughout winter, there’s a daily direct connection, the Verbier Express, from Lausanne heading straight to Le Châble on weekends and holidays. To catch the Verbier Express, be at Lausanne Train Station by 8:21 AM; it reaches Le Châble at 9:39 AM.

Although the Verbier Express isn’t as speedy as the fastest train connections, it offers a perk—you won’t need to change trains until Le Châble, especially convenient if you’re carrying your ski gear.

How to Travel From Verbier to Lausanne by Train

To travel by train from Verbier to Lausanne, you will have to take the following trains:

  1. Take the gondola from Verbier (télécabine) to Le Châble VS.
  2. In Le Châble VS, take the train to Martigny.
  3. In Martigny, take the Interregio train to Lausanne.

The travel time from Verbier to Lausanne is 1 hour and 33 minutes to 1 hour and 39 minutes.

Throughout winter, there’s a daily direct connection, the Verbier Express, from Le Châble, heading straight to Lausanne on weekends and holidays. To catch the Verbier Express, be at Le Châble by 5:27 PM; it reaches Lausanne at 6:48 PM.

Although the Verbier Express isn’t as speedy as the fastest train connections, it offers a perk—you won’t need to change trains starting from Le Châble, especially convenient if you’re carrying your ski gear.

Is There a Direct Train From Lausanne to Verbier?

At the time of this update (December 2023), there’s only one direct winter train from Lsaunne to Verbier, known as the Verbier Express. Apart from the Verbier Express, there aren’t any other direct train connections between Lausanne and Verbier.

In Martigny, you’ll need to change to a connecting train for Le Châble VS/Verbier and vice versa.

Is the Train Route From Lausanne to Verbier Scenic?

Although the trains connecting both places are not panoramic trains unlike Bernina Express, the route from Lausanne to Verbier is scenic. From Lausanne, you will be treated to fantastic views of Lake Geneva until it reaches Montreux. Even the vineyards around Aigle are quite pretty.
