The Tiny Fairytale Village of Iseltwald, Switzerland

With its idyllic setting, the little village of Iseltwald, Switzerland is like something out of a fairy tale. The village is in the Bernese Oberland Region on the southern shores of Lake Brienz. It’s a tiny place of just 400 people, set against the turquoise waters of the lake and the beautiful Swiss Alps. 

The number of tourists around here in Iseltwald has increased recently, with several tourist buses stopping here each day. It’s a popular stop for hikers and tourists staying in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland, as well as fans of the Korean show Crash Landing on You.

Lots of villages in Switzerland are surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and crystal blue waters that make them heaven on earth. Iseltwald is one such example. It is set in Lake Brienz, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful lakes with turquoise blue water. The town Brienz, which shares the same name as the lake, lies on the northeast side of the lake. On the other hand, Iseltwald is at the southern end of the lake.

Iseltwald isn’t a big tourist spot. This is a small, quiet village that makes for a nice stroll. You can even go swimming if the water is warm. And there are mountains everywhere. Crash Landing on You, a popular South Korean TV show, filmed some scenes there. If you don’t like the hustle and bustle of the city, Iseltwald is the place for you.

There is a castle on the peninsula called Seeburg Castle, built back in 1907 by the owner Gottfried Siegrist. However, it is not open to visitors at the moment. 

Iseltwald to Giessbach Waterfalls

The Giessbach Waterfalls are a popular destination that can be reached from Iseltwald. The hike starts by hiking along Lake Brienz before entering a forested area. It ends in Giessbach where you can ride the funicular, see the Grandhotel Giessbach, and see the mighty waterfalls cascading down. How to get to Iseltwald, Switzerland

There is no train station in Iseltwald but you can reach it by bus or boat.

The bus ride to Iseltwald takes 29 to 33 minutes from Interlaken West and 21 to 25 minutes from Interlaken Ost.

If you would rather come by boat, you can take it from Interlaken Ost (See). The boat will bring you to Iseltwald (See) in 44 minutes.

Best Time To Visit Iseltwald, Switzerland

Although you can go to Iseltwald all year round, the best time to go is in summer when it’s warm enough to swim. For those of you who like colder water, you can go in late spring or early autumn.

Some snow might be left on the peaks in early spring depending on the snowfall during winter. You can also come in autumn if you like fall colors.

But really, Iseltwald can be enjoyed any time of year. Because Iseltwald is a year-round destination and each season offers a different backdrop, you can go at any time.

You can visit Iseltwald near Interlaken, one of the most picturesque areas in Switzerland. The village is small and not much happens except for the breathtaking views, so not a lot of people go there. However, the view of the lake and mountains from Iseltwald is pretty amazing. 

Iseltwald is a great place if you’re looking for peace and quiet without the crush of tourists you’ll find at more popular destinations.
